A plain recap of what actually matters if you write, tutor, or run a small business with Claude.

Claude Sonnet 4.6 is here — what changed?

Model numbers move faster than most of us need. You do not have to “keep up” with every release. You do need to know if the tool you already use got better at the jobs you pay it for.

What is worth noticing

Sonnet 4.6 is still the everyday Claude — not the giant research model, not the tiny fast one. It is the one you open when you want a CV, a lesson plan, a client email, or a summary of a long PDF.

See the broader ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison.

For practical results, read about using Claude to earn R1,800 in one week.

  • Longer documents hold together better. Less “forgetting” the start of a 10-page brief.
  • It is more willing to say “I don’t know” instead of guessing a South African price or law.
  • Instructions like “do not invent dates” are followed more reliably. That matters for CVs.

What did not change

It still cannot see your client. It still cannot check CIPC, SARS, or whether a township address is real. If you paste rubbish in, you get confident rubbish out.

If you already have a Claude habit, keep it. You do not need to switch apps because a decimal in the name moved. If you are new, start here, not with a dozen tools at once.
