Garmin announced the Enduro 4 on 6 Oct 2026 and calls it its "longest-lasting GPS smartwatch with solar charging". It costs US$899.99, and Garmin's US product page says it's "available to order on October 9th". Garmin's own South African store lists it at R19,999, marked "coming soon".
Here's the thing most launch headlines skip. The battery life is the same as the Enduro 3's, mode for mode. What's new is more memory, double the storage, a faster map engine, a fabric band and a handful of training tools. That's a useful refresh, not a reinvention.
Short version. Buy it if you're new to the Enduro line and want Garmin's longest-lasting watch with the latest features. Keep your Enduro 3 if you already have one, because the battery, screen and sensors don't change. Wait a few weeks if you're in South Africa, since the local listing is still "coming soon". Skip it if you really want a smartwatch with a bright screen and calls.

What Garmin announced
The Enduro 4 is Garmin's endurance watch for ultra runners, multi-day hikers, backpackers and anyone who'd rather not charge a watch mid-race. It has a 1.4-inch MIP display (the always-visible, low-power kind, not a glossy AMOLED) under a solar charging lens.
There's one wrinkle on dates. Garmin's press release says "available now", but its US product page says orders open on 9 October. GSMArena also reports a 9 October US sale date. So treat 6 October as the announcement and 9 October as the day US orders open. It isn't on shelves everywhere yet.
What's actually new
Maps and memory
Garmin says the Enduro 4 has 50% more RAM than the Enduro 3 and an updated map engine with 30% faster panning. That's Garmin's claim, not our test. There's also a new Perspective view, which shows more detail both close up and further ahead, and built-in routable maps. Storage goes up to 64 GB for maps, music and data. According to the5krunner's comparison of Garmin's spec sheets, that's double the Enduro 3's 32 GB.
Training tools
- Grade-adjusted pace targets and rolling pace. Workout targets and a live pace readout that account for hills, so a slow climb doesn't look like a bad day.
- Stamina zones and stamina curve. How your stamina affects an activity, and how your endurance changes over time.
- Garmin Epic. Groups several activities over days, weeks or months into one "Epic" in Garmin Connect, with photos and combined stats. Think of a five-day hike logged as one story.
- Rowing and rucking. VO2 max and a power curve for indoor rowing, and the option to change pack weight mid-activity when rucking.
Garmin lists more than 100 activity profiles in total.
Band, light and build
The new ComfortFit Fabric Band uses QuickFit, so it swaps easily. One catch from the5krunner: it fits wrists of 145 to 220 mm, while the Enduro 3's UltraFit band starts at 127 mm. If you have small wrists, try it on first.
The rest is familiar. Garmin lists a 51 mm case, a Power Sapphire lens, a titanium bezel, a fibre-reinforced polymer case, a built-in LED flashlight with white and red light, and 10 ATM water resistance. It weighs 66 g, per Garmin.
Battery in plain English
Garmin's headline numbers are up to 320 hours in activity mode and up to 90 days in smartwatch mode. Both figures lean on solar charging, and Garmin's footnotes spell out the conditions:
- The 320 hours assume continuous use in 50,000 lux with the extended-battery activity mode selected.
- The 90 days assume all-day wear with 3 hours a day outside in 50,000 lux.
50,000 lux is bright outdoor light. A cloudy week or a desk job will get you less from the sun.
According to the5krunner, which compared Garmin's spec sheets, the Enduro 4 has the same battery figures as the Enduro 3 in every mode: 36 days as a smartwatch (90 with solar) and 120 hours of GPS (320 with solar). GSMArena also says battery life is the same as before. So this isn't a battery upgrade, and nobody should sell it to you as one.
To help you manage it, Garmin includes preset power modes. Max Accuracy gives full-feature tracking for shorter efforts. Max Battery stretches recording for long ones.

Enduro 3 figures, weights, band fit and security-update dates come from the5krunner's comparison of Garmin's spec sheets. Per the5krunner, the case, display, sensors and multi-band GPS are the same on both.
Two things to check before you upgrade. First, the5krunner reports Garmin has said Epic, stamina zones, rucking and rowing updates will come to the Fenix 8 and other existing watches. The Enduro 3 seems a likely candidate, but that isn't confirmed. Second, the5krunner lists six features on the Enduro 3 page that don't appear on the Enduro 4 page at launch: hands-free voice control, Quick workout, Varia Vision compatibility, YouTube Music, WhatsApp through Connect IQ and XC ski power. Garmin hasn't said any were removed, but if you rely on one, check first.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
The Enduro 4 makes sense for trail and ultra runners, multi-day hikers, long-distance cyclists and overlanders. These are people who care about battery, maps and a flashlight more than a pretty screen. If you're training for a long trail race and your current watch dies before you finish, this is the kind of tool built for that problem.
It's the wrong watch if you want a bright AMOLED display, a smartwatch-first experience, or phone calls from your wrist. For that buyer, our Apple Watch Series 12 vs Ultra 4 comparison is a better starting point.
Price and availability
- US: US$899.99 suggested retail, with orders opening 9 October per Garmin's product page.
- UK: the5krunner lists it at £799.99. We didn't find a Garmin UK page to confirm that.
- South Africa: Garmin's South African store shows the Enduro 4 as "New" and "Coming soon" at R19,999 (part number 010-04799-01), checked on 8 Oct. You can't order it there yet, and Garmin hasn't given a local ship date.
If you're in South Africa, buy through Garmin's local store or an authorised dealer so you keep local warranty support. Our grey-import and marketplace checklist explains why importing a watch like this is usually a false saving.
Buy, wait, keep, or skip?
Buy (new buyers, ultra and multi-day users) if you want Garmin's longest-lasting solar watch, maps and a flashlight on a 66 g titanium-bezel watch, plus the new training tools and longer guaranteed security updates from day one.
Keep your Enduro 3 if you already own one. The battery, display and sensors are the same, and some new features may reach existing watches by update, though Garmin hasn't confirmed the Enduro 3. Upgrade only if you need 64 GB of storage, the faster maps or Epic right now.
Wait a few weeks if you're in South Africa. The R19,999 listing is still marked coming soon, and launch periods are when older models tend to get cheaper. Compare both once you can actually order.
Consider an Enduro 3 instead if price matters more than new features. You get the same battery, and the older band fits smaller wrists.
Skip if you want an AMOLED screen or a smartwatch-first device. This is a long-haul tool.
