How I used Claude AI to earn R1,800 in one week — without any special skills
You do not need a computer science degree, a fancy laptop, or English that sounds like a textbook. You need a problem people already pay to solve, and a tool that helps you solve it faster.
Last week I treated Claude like a junior assistant, not a magic money machine. I picked three jobs people in Johannesburg already pay for: CV rewrites, WhatsApp sales captions for small shops, and product descriptions for Facebook Marketplace. Then I did the work in public — posted in two Facebook groups, messaged three salon owners I already knew, and listed one Fiverr gig.
The exact offer
I did not sell “AI”. I sold a result. “I will rewrite your CV so it is clear in 24 hours — R250.” “I will write 10 product captions for your store — R300.” People understand that. They do not understand tokens, models, or prompts.
Claude’s job was the first draft. My job was to make it sound like a South African wrote it, check names and dates, and send it as a clean Word file or a WhatsApp message. That last part is the part most “AI side hustle” posts skip — and it is the part that gets you paid.
What actually made the R1,800
- Four CV rewrites at R250 each
- Two caption packs for clothing resellers at R300 each
- One Marketplace listing pack at R200
That is not a full-time income. It is proof. If you can do this once, you can do it again next week with less hunting, because you now have samples.
A prompt that does not sound robotic
Paste the client’s messy notes, then ask: “Rewrite this CV for a South African hiring manager. Keep the facts. Cut fluff. Use short sentences. Do not invent jobs or dates. End with a 4-line professional summary.” Then you edit. Always.
If you send the first draft unchanged, people can tell. If you spend ten minutes making it specific, it looks like you did the whole thing by hand.
Start with people you already know. Charge a number you can say out loud without flinching. Deliver the same day if you can. That is the whole method.
